There may not be many pages, but every Wally book is still a fun challenge for children, and these ‘wand’ editions are a lot of fun, you feel like a proper detective.

Only 6 pages though, but it would make a good festive gift or holiday time-filler for the right age group. I adored these as a kid and spent hours on them, ticking boxes off when I’d found everything: it is immensely satisfying.

From a page of Santas to a shopping spectacular (complete with Christmas jumpers), we go in Santa’s workshop and there’s even a rather tasty looking baking page. As well as (rather short) lists of things to find, there are some puzzles – I like the pipework challenge on the BakeOff page. There are extra things to find, a word puzzle, matching pairs.

Older children will have no trouble playing with this on their own, younger children will still enjoy this book but will need some support in the reading and concentrating for long enough for some of the Finding.

I do like the fact you can download extra wands online, very useful!

A lovely looking hardback, great for ages 5-10 in particular.

With thanks to Walker Books for providing a sample reading copy.
